Café Costermans sits quietly on Place du Grand Sablon, offering a laid-back cafe experience framed by one of Brussels’ more peaceful courtyards. It’s the sort of spot locals might pick for a slow morning start or a gentle afternoon break, especially when the weather nudges them outside onto its calm terrace. This outdoor space feels removed enough from the city’s buzz to unwind, yet it carries the easy charm of the Sablon neighborhood.

Breakfast and brunch here lean towards classic comfort with thoughtful touches, like generous pastries that pair well with good coffee or a casual glass of wine. Portions trend on the modest side, which fits the vibe of light meals and lingering conversations rather than hearty, rushed dining. Visitors often appreciate the quiet moments accompanied by attentive, unhurried service — though it’s clear the pace can fluctuate, especially during busier times.

The crowd you’ll find is diverse but generally drawn from those looking for a relaxed start or ending to their day: people fresh off a morning run, friends catching up over drinks, or solo visitors enjoying the calm courtyard with a well-made cocktail or a carefully prepared egg dish. The presence of a well-behaved dog greeting guests adds a touch of local warmth that’s more found in neighborhood spots than in polished tourist hubs.

Early weekdays or late mornings on weekends tend to be ideal for grabbing a seat outside and settling in with a book or good company. Though the café accommodates breakfast, brunch, and even dinner, its real appeal is sharing lighter moments — whether that’s the sweetness of a cinnamon roll or the freshness of asparagus paired with good conversation. The atmosphere is cozy without pretense, making it a quiet corner away from the more bustling parts of the city center.

Went here for breakfast in Sablon and it instantly became a favourite. I had the Super Bum with eggs, cheddar and bacon — honestly one of the most delicious egg dishes I’ve ever had. The place itself is charming, with a beautiful courtyard you walk through before entering. Calm, cosy, and a great start to the day. Fantastic brunch/breakfast spot. I’ll definitely return.

The place is amazing especially for the quiet outdoor terrace. The food is great, we enjoyed the asparagus and croque-monsieur, but felt like the portions were a little bit small. The staff is really nice however the service was quite slow. Would definitely recommend and be back!

We were very pleased with this cafe! Perfect for an after work drink: in a calm and very beautiful courtyard, good choice of wine and other drinks, very reasonable prices. The service was very quick and attentive. Bonus: the cutest dog that is very well behaved! I will definitely be back!

Just discovered Café Costermans a true hidden gem in Sablon! We stopped by after finishing the Brussels Marathon and couldn’t have picked a better spot. The food was amazing, the cocktails were delicious , and the staff was so friendly and welcoming. Can’t wait to go back soon!

Lovely cozy hidden spot in Sablon area, with a warm atmosphere. Both breakfast, brunch or dinner are possible. The cinnamon roll and very large pain au chocolat were great for a breakfast.

Mix some family history with very good coffee and a side of charm and you get Café Costermans. Hidden down a quiet alley just off the Sablon, it opens into a peaceful courtyard that feels like it belongs in a dreamier version of Brussels. Inside, it’s all exposed brick, velvet sofas and chess boards. Outside, it’s leafy, sunlit and very Aperol-appropriate. The menu’s all in French with no English options available, but don’t panic. The team are absolute gems and will walk you through everything with patience and flair. We went in hard on brunch: nduja eggs with a spicy oil drizzle and a Croque jambonneau so gloriously overloaded with cheese it probably needed structural support. Both were delicious, but seriously filling. Come hungry. Coffee-wise, the iced oat latte leaned milky but still held its own. The espresso? Smooth and strong. Service was relaxed, friendly and a cut above most places in town. If the weather plays ball, that courtyard is worth the visit alone. If not, the couches and humble interior make up for it. Not quite the viral spot social media hinted at, but a genuinely lovely café with real heart and great staff. Would return in a heartbeat.

The courtyard is lovely, open and spacious. What their Google listing doesn’t show is when the kitchen is open. Unfortunately we would have had to wait over an hour for it to open so we left.
